CAT Exam & syllabus

Stalwart Career Institute Common Admission Test, popularly known as the CAT Exam, is an online computer-based standardized test conducted by the IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) for admission into post graduate management programs of 20 IIMs and other B-schools in India. This test is conducted in over 156 cities.


CAT 2020 IMPORTANT DATES

1. CAT 2020 registration begins: 5th August 2020

2. CAT 2020 registration ends: 23rd September 2020

3. CAT 2020 admit card download: 28th October 2020

4. CAT 2020 Exam date: 29th November 2020

5. CAT 2020 result date: 5th January 2020


CAT 2020 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

In order to appear for the CAT 2020 Exam, the candidate must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:

1. The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree awarded by any of the Universities included by an act of the central or a state legislature in India, or any other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or are declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or hold an equivalent qualification recognized by the MHRD, India.

2. The candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45%). Candidates belonging to the reserved category like Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD), must have secured a minimum of 45%.

3. The candidate can also apply if he is appearing for the final year of bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification examination or has finished the degree prerequisites and is anticipating results.


CAT 2020 EXAM PATTERN

1. Total number of questions: 100

2. Total marks: 300

3. Marks given for correct answer: +3

4. Marks deducted for incorrect answer: -1

5. *no points are given for questions that are not answered.

6. Duration of the test: 2 hours.

7. Max time allotted for each section: 40 minutes

CAT 2020 REGISTRATION PROCEDURE

Given below are the steps to be followed to register for the CAT 2020 Exam:

1. To register for CAT 2020 visit www.iimcat.ac.in. and click on the ‘registration’ tab and enter the required details.

2. On successful registration, you will receive a user id and password through mail or SMS. Login and complete the application form for CAT 2020.

3. In the application form you will be asked to fill some personal details, contact details and academic details. You will also be asked to choose the IIMs you want to apply for and choose the test center and interview city.

4. After this, you need to upload your photograph and signature where ever mentioned.

*please note that registration for the CAT 2020 exam should be completed between 5th September and 23rd September.


CAT 2020 APPLICATION FEES

The last step required to complete your registration for the CAT 2020 Exam is the online payment of the application fees.

The application fee for unreserved category (General/OBC) candidates is Rs 2000.

The application fee for reserved category (SC/ST/PWD) candidates is Rs 1000.

This can be done through Credit/Debit card or Net banking.


CAT 2020 ADMISSION PROCESS

1. After completing the online registration for the CAT 2020 Exam, candidates that fulfil the eligibility criteria will be called to appear for the CAT Exam.

2. Once the cut off for the CAT Exam is released, the candidates who qualify will be called for the Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) round.

3. After the performance of the candidate has been assessed for all the rounds, final selection will be made on the basis of composite score.


CAT 2020 CUT OFF

The CAT 2020 cut off refers to the minimum percentile that a candidate must secure in the CAT 2020 Exam in order to qualify for the Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), and Written Ability Test (WAT) rounds.

The cut off for the various IIMs and B-Schools varies every year depending on the level of difficulty of the test, number of candidates who appear for and/or pass the exam, number of seats available in the particular institute and the ranking of the particular institute.

In 2019, the general cut off for getting into the top management colleges of India was 85 to 100 percentile. For admission into the top IIM institutes like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode, the cut off over the years has been 99+ percentile.

The CAT 2020 cut off is scheduled to be released in the first half of January 2020.


CAT 2020 RESULTS

The CAT 2020 Results are expected to be published on 5th January 2021.

To check the CAT 2020 Results, follow the steps given below:

1. Visit the official CAT 2020 website www.iimcat.ac.in

2. Click on the CAT 2020 results/ CAT 2020 login tab and enter your user Id and password.

3. Click on submit and you will be able to view and/or download your CAT 2020 results.
