What is CUET — and which one applies to you?

There are two versions: CUET UG for undergraduate admissions and CUET PG for postgraduate. They have different structures, eligibility criteria and preparation approaches.

Frequently asked questions about CUET
What is CUET and who should appear for it?
CUET — the Common University Entrance Test — is conducted by NTA and is now the primary basis for admissions to most central universities in India, replacing board marks as the admission criterion. CUET UG is for Class 12 students seeking undergraduate admission to universities like Delhi University, JNU, BHU, Jamia and 250+ others. CUET PG is for graduates seeking postgraduate admission at central universities. If your target is any central university programme, CUET is the exam you must take.
What is the difference between CUET UG and CUET PG?
CUET UG is for Class 12 pass or appearing students who want undergraduate admissions — BA, B.Sc, B.Com and similar programmes at central universities. CUET PG is for graduates who want postgraduate admissions — MA, M.Sc, M.Com and other PG programmes. The structure, eligibility and preparation approach are different for both. Stalwart covers both at its centres and online.
Is coaching necessary for CUET preparation?
Structured coaching significantly improves your CUET score — particularly for the General Test (GAT), which tests reasoning, mental ability and current affairs that are not covered in Class 12 boards. English preparation also benefits enormously from structured coaching focused on the specific question types CUET uses. Structured CUET Classes provides a disciplined schedule, targeted mock tests, and a personal mentor who tracks your progress and helps you improve where it matters most.
What does CUET preparation at Stalwart cover?
Stalwart’s CUET preparation covers the General Test (GAT) and English as the primary focus — the two sections required by most university-programme combinations. Domain subject support is also available for all major streams — Science, Commerce and Humanities. Your personal mentor will guide you on exactly which sections to prepare based on your target universities and programme choices.
Which universities can I get into with a good CUET score?
CUET is accepted by 250+ institutions including all colleges at Delhi University (Hindu College, LSR, SRCC, Miranda House, Hansraj and more), JNU, BHU, Jamia Millia Islamia, University of Hyderabad, EFLU, and dozens of other central and state universities. The list grows every year. Your personal mentor at Stalwart will help you build a realistic college list based on your stream, score and programme preference.
When should I start CUET preparation?
CUET UG is typically held between May and July each year for Class 12 students. Ideally, preparation should begin at least 4 to 6 months before the exam — so November to January for an exam in May. The GAT section benefits from consistent preparation over time, particularly current affairs. Starting earlier gives you more time to build accuracy and confidence in the English and reasoning sections.
Is CUET preparation available online at Stalwart?
Yes — Stalwart offers CUET preparation through Live Classes, Self Paced Courses and Correspondence, available to students anywhere in India. Online options are particularly suitable for CUET PG students who are currently in college or working. Every online student gets the same study material, mock tests, personal mentor and app access as classroom students.
What is the GAT section in CUET and how is it prepared for?
The General Test (GAT) in CUET covers General Knowledge, Current Affairs, General Mental Ability, Numerical Ability, Quantitative Reasoning and Logical Reasoning. It is required for admission to most programmes across most central universities. At Stalwart, the GAT is one of the two primary focus areas alongside English — with dedicated sessions, targeted practice, and regular mock tests that mirror the actual CUET GAT pattern.
