About CAT Exam

Common Admission Test, popularly known as the CAT Exam, is an online computer-based standardized test conducted by the IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management) for admission into post graduate management programs of IIMs. CAT is conducted every year by the IIMs on a rotational basis.

CAT acts as a gateway to 20 IIMs and over 1,200 B-schools in India such as S.P Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR), Faculty of Management Studies (FMS), Management Development Institute (Gurgaon), Institute of Management Technology (IMT), Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (JBIMS), International Management Institute (IMI), National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE) and several others.

CAT Exam 2022 Eligibility Criteria

In order to appear for the CAT Exam 2022, the candidate must satisfy the following eligibility criteria:

The candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree awarded by any of the Universities included by an act of the central or a state legislature in India, or any other educational institutions established by an act of Parliament or are declared to be deemed as a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956, or hold an equivalent qualification recognized by the MHRD, India.

The candidate has to secure a minimum of 50% marks or equivalent CGPA (45%). Candidates belonging to the reserved category like Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST) and Persons with Disability (PWD), must have secured a minimum of 45%.

The candidate can also apply if he is appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification examination or has finished the degree prerequisites and is anticipating results.

CAT 2022 EXAM PATTERN

According to the CAT Exam 2019 Pattern, each section of the CAT exam 2022 is expected to be allocated 60 minutes and there is no concept of carrying that time forward to other sections.

Marks given for correct answer: +3
Marks deducted for incorrect answer: -1
No marks are given for questions that are not answered.
Duration of the test: 180 minutes.
Maximum time allotted for each section: 60 minutes
The number of questions in each section: 34 in QA, 34 in VA and 32 in LRDI

Alternatively, CAT 2022 Exam Pattern can also take the route of CAT 2021 Exam Pattern.

No marks are given for questions that are not answered.
Duration of the test: 120 minutes.
Max time allotted for each section: 40 minutes.
The number of questions in each section: 22 in QA, 24 in VARC and 20 in LRDI

CAT Exam 2022 Registration Procedure

Given below are the steps to be followed to register for the CAT 2021 Exam:

To register for CAT 2022 visit www.iimcat.ac.in. and click on the ‘registration’ tab and enter the required details.
On successful registration, you will receive a user id and password through mail or SMS. Login and complete the application form for CAT 2022.
In the application form you will be asked to fill some personal details, contact details and academic details. You will also be asked to choose the IIMs you want to apply for and choose the test center and interview city.
After this, you need to upload your photograph and signature where ever mentioned.

CAT Exam 2022 Application Fee

The last step required to complete your registration for the CAT Exam is the online payment of the application fees.

The application fee for unreserved category (General/OBC) candidates is Rs 2000.

The application fee for reserved category (SC/ST/PWD) candidates is Rs 1000.

This can be done through Credit/Debit card or Net banking.

CAT Exam 2022 Admission Process

After completing the online registration for the CAT Exam, candidates that fulfil the eligibility criteria will be called to appear for the CAT Exam.
Once the cut off for the CAT Exam is released, the candidates who qualify will be called for the Group Discussion (GD), Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI) round.
After the performance of the candidate has been assessed for all the rounds, final selection will be made on the basis of composite score.

CAT Exam 2022 Cut Off

The CAT Exam 2022 cut off refers to the minimum percentile that a candidate must secure in the CAT Exam in order to qualify for the Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI), and Written Ability Test (WAT) rounds.

The cut off for the various IIMs and B-Schools varies every year depending on the level of difficulty of the test, number of candidates who appear for and/or pass the exam, number of seats available in the particular institute and the ranking of the particular institute.

In 2020, the general cut off for getting into the top management colleges of India was 85 to 100 percentile. For admission into the top IIM institutes like IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore, IIM Calcutta, IIM Lucknow and IIM Kozhikode, the cut off over the years has been 99+ percentile.

The CAT 2022 cut off is scheduled to be released in the first half of January 2023.

CAT Exam 2022 Results

The CAT 2022 Results are expected to be published in the first week of January 2023.

To check the CAT 2022 Results, follow the steps given below:

1. Visit the official CAT 2022 website www.iimcat.ac.in

2. Click on the CAT 2022 results/ CAT 2022 login tab and enter your user Id and password.

3. Click on submit and you will be able to view and/or download your CAT 2022 results.
